Paul McCartney performed a special solo rendition of The Beatles' 1968 single "Lady Madonna" on the One World: Together at Home special on Saturday night (Apr.
18). Introduced by co-host Jimmy Fallon as is "favorite singer/songwriter," Sir Paul prefaced his performance with a shout out to his mother Mary, a midwife and nurse after the second world war. "So I have a lot of time for all the doctors and the nurses, and the medical staff to keep us healthy," he explained.
McCartney's quarantined version of "Lady Madonna" was virtually unrecognizable as the jaunty original that hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968, stripped down to just Macca and his electric piano, and performed at a slower, more tender pace.
