PHILADELPHIA - A Pennsylvania man drown at a New Jersey beach when police say he was swept out to sea by strong currents Thursday afternoon. Shawn Reilly, 56, was swimming at an Ocean City beach with his 21-year-old son when police say rough surf caused him to struggle in the water. According to investigators, Reilly's son tried to help his father and was also taken by the strong currents.Three lifeguards entered the water and brought both men to shore where they immediately started CPR on Reilly. First responders from the Ocean City Fire Department/EMS took over CPR and rushed Reilly to Shore Medical Center where he died.

PHILADELPHIA - Law enforcement sources tell FOX 29's Steeve Keeley that Deputy Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department Christine Coulter has resigned.Coulter, according to the department's website, had more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, having served in patrol, narcotics, intelligence, investigations and other special units.Sources say Commissioner Danielle Outlaw gave Coulter the option to be demoted after a disagreement about the handling of a recent shooting incident.She served as the Acting Police Commissioner after the sudden resignation of Richard Ross in 2019, before later being replaced by Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. Coulter brief appointment was historic at the time as she became the first woman to lead Philadelphia's police force. "No matter the law enforcement assignment, Deputy Commissioner Coulter’s compassion for people and commitment to fairness and public safety shape her leadership style and fuel her law enforcement decisions," Coulter's biography on the department's website reads. The Philadelphia Police Department has not released a statement about Coulter's reported resignation.

The Philadelphia Police Department is searching for two men accused of a gunpoint robbery at a Rite Aid.

DALLAS COUNTY, Texas - A Dallas County grand jury indicted Yaqub Talib in the deadly shooting of a Lancaster football coach during a game last month.According to the indictment, Talib, the brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, "unlawfully" and "intentionally" shot coach Michael Hickmon.The grand jury went on to say Talib intended to cause serious bodily injury to Hickmon and committed "an act clearly dangerous to human life".Talib is expected to be charged with murder.Police said the shooting occurred at the end of a game on August 13 between Dragon's Elite Academy and North Dallas United at Lancaster Community Park on Jefferson Street.In a video obtained by TMZ, it appears there was a confrontation between some North Dallas United coaches and the referees. BENSALEM, Pa. - Authorities say a motorcycle driver was killed Wednesday night in Bucks County when he lost control of his bike and slammed into a concrete barrier. Pennsylvania State Police reported Anthony Dworinitski, 35, died when he crashed his Suzuki motorcycle on the I-95 southbound exit ramp near Cornwells Hights Park and Ride just before 9 p.m. An investigation concluded that Dworinitski lost control of his motorcycle and struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the exit ramp, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency medical responders from Bensalem pronounced Dworinitski, a Bristol resident, dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the deadly motorcycle crash. 

CHELTENHAM, Pa. - On the same day Pennsylvania leaders met to raise concerns about rising crime against the postal service, authorities in one county warned residents to avoid a mailbox that's been struck by thefts dozens of times.The Cheltenham Township Police Department advised residents not to put mail with cash or checks inside the blue dropbox outside the Elkins Park Post office on Ashbourne Road. The box, according to police, has been a favorite target for money-hungry thieves.Authorities say checks taken from the mailbox have been stolen, washed, and fraudulently deposited into another account of an unintended recipient.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in custody after he shot his girlfriend before barricading himself in a home, police say. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just after 3 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities say 35th District officers on patrol heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Ogontz and W Nedro Avenues. Police checked the area and received a 911 call for a report of a woman shot on the 5800 block of Ogontz Avenue, Small says. After receiving reports of the shooting, investigators learned a woman, 29, drove herself about one mile to Einstein Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. Authorities say the woman suffered from a graze wound and is in stable condition. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESSmall says the woman told police that she was standing outside of a garage and tire shop on the 5900 block of Ogontz Avenue when she was shot by her "on-again, off-again" boyfriend. According to authorities, the woman said the boyfriend had an apartment inside of the garage. Police saw the man inside the property, but he refused to come out, officials say. The situation was upgraded to a barricade after multiple attempts to get him out of the building failed and the SWAT unit were called in, Small says. Authorities say as the police presence increased, the man exited the building and was taken into custody. A second man was also inside the tire shop and he is being held and questioned as a witness, according to police. Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department's non-fatal shooting unit are continuing to investigate. This is a developing story.

DUBLIN, Calif. - An Alameda County sheriff's deputy has surrendered after shooting and killing husband and wife in Dublin, authorities said.Deputy Devin Williams Jr. phoned Dublin police while driving south to the Central Valley. He was taken into custody with the help of California Highway Patrol officers in Coalinga and the Fresno County sheriff's office.

Police in Memphis, Tennessee, warned residents to shelter in place as a man drives around the city shooting at people on Thursday night. Police have since arrested the suspect.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis is currently on lockdown after several shots were reported in the area and police said a 19-year-old man was wanted for multiple shootings in the city, Fox 13 reported. On Wednesday afternoon, Memphis police said the suspect a 19-year-old Black man was going around shooting people and recording his actions on Facebook. At least two shootings had been reported in Memphis as of 7 p.m., a deadly shooting at a BP gas station on South Parkway and a woman who was critically injured after being shot on Norris Road near I-240, Fox 13 reports. One Twitter user posted a clip of the suspect's Facebook live which shows him entering a store and shooting at a nearby customer. "So a random guy in Memphis is going around just shooting & killing random people on his Facebook live, happening right now, Memphis stay safe," the Twitter user wrote. WARNING: THE VIDEO IN THIS LINK CONTAINS GRAPHIC FOOTAGE AND MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME. The man is reportedly driving a blue or silver Infiniti car, police say. Anyone with information on these incidents should call 911 immediately. This story will be updated shortly.

CHESTER HEIGHTS, Pa. - A woman died after she crashed head-on into a pole as police were chasing her in Chester Heights Borough on Wednesday. According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers on patrol came upon a running vehicle in a parking lot around 1 a.m. in Concord Township. Authorities say the car's registration information revealed that the vehicle, a 2012 Ford Focus, and thedriver, a 50-year-old woman, were listed as missing and endangered from Connecticut. Troopers approached the car and saw an unresponsive female in the driver's seat, officials say. State Police says troopers tapped the window, causing the woman to wake up. Troopers say the woman then began to exhibit signs that she was possibly undergoing a mental health episode and she sped away. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESTroopers followed the woman as she fled and attempted to stop her, but she put the car in reverse, striking the troopers' patrol car before going north in the southbound lanes towards oncoming traffic, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Authorities say the woman then drove back into the northbound lanes recklessly while ignoring lights and sirens from troopers. As the troopers continued to follow her, she drove head on into a utility pole on Valleybrook Road and was ejected from the vehicle, according to officials. Police say she was pronounced dead on scene and that an investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.

NASSAU, Bahamas - A shark attacked and killed a U.S. cruise ship passenger who was snorkeling in waters around the Bahamas on Tuesday, according to authorities.The incident involved a 58-year-old woman from Pennsylvania and occurred at a popular snorkeling spot near Green Cay in the northern Bahamas, police spokeswoman Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings told The Associated Press."It’s unfortunate," she said.Skippings said the woman’s family identified it as a bull shark.Royal Caribbean International said in a statement to the AP that the person died after arriving at a local hospital for treatment and that the company is helping their loved ones.
