Police: 2 sought in gunpoint robbery of Philadelphia Rite-Aid

PHILADELPHIA - A teenage boy is being held responsible for the shooting of a 19-year-old at a busy SEPTA station in Philadelphia this summer, according to the District Attorney's Office.Police say the victim was shot in the chest, stomach and hand at the 15th Street Station under City Hall on July 14. He reportedly fought for his life for 13 days.Officials say the incident began after a 14-year-old suspect boarded a train at the 69th Street Station with a loaded 9mm gun. Both the suspect and victim reportedly got into an argument and drew guns when exiting the train. Officials say the suspect then shot the victim at close range and escaped in the chaos of running passengers.

PHILADELPHIA - A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Philadelphia parks and rec employee, the Philadelphia District Attorney announced. According to authorities, Tiffany Fletcher, 40, was preparing to welcome students to the Mill Creek Recreation Center after school when she got stuck in the crossfire of a shootout between two groups on Friday. PREVIOUS: Philadelphia rec center worker shot and killed, 14-year-old in custody, police sayPolice released new details about the investigation in Da Larry Krasner's weekly gun crimes press conference. Officials say 16th District officers heard gunshots in the area of the 4700 block of Brown Street Friday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m.Responding officers saw people running and officers chased and arrested a 14-year-old man on Perry Street, Commissioner Danielle Outlaw announced. A detective later recovered a 9mm ghost gun loaded with one round in the chamber and one round in the magazine from a trash can on Perry Street, according to officials. As the teen was arrested, other officers located Fletcher suffering from gunshot wounds to both sides of her body on Brown Street. Outlaw says after being shot, Fletcher ran to a nearby business, where they tried to tend to her wounds. Fletcher was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where she died from her injuries, authorities said. Police say she was outside of the recreation center when she was caught in the crossfire between the 14-year-old and at least one other person.

PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery quickly turned into a shooting in Philadelphia's Nicetown neighborhood Monday morning.Police responded to the 1300 block of West Roosevelt Boulevard for a person with a gun around 1:20 a.m.A woman was reportedly shot in the ear a couple miles away on the 1300 block of St. Luke Street.

NEWARK, Del. - Authorities say a woman suspected of shooting another woman at a Delaware apartment complex was critically wounded by police who confronted her.The New Castle County police department says the armed woman was firing a gun when two officers encountered her at the apartment complex in Newark on Friday night. Police say both officers opened fire on the woman, hitting her in the chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESShe was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical condition. Investigators believe the woman had shot a 26-year-old woman during an argument. The other woman is also in critical condition.

PHILADELPHIA - A child has been reunited with its mother after it was inside a car that was stolen from a driveway in Fox Chase, police say. The Philadelphia Police Department's Special Victim's Unit is investigating the incident. Authorities say a baby was inside a Nissan Rogue taken from the 800 block of Arnold Street in the Fox Chase section of the city. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, police tracked the mother's AirPods that were in the vehicle, which led them to find it at Castor and Griffith Streets in Rhawnhurst. Police did not provide any additional information but say the case remains under investigation. 

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating a shooting that left one man dead. According to police, officers responded to a residence on the 100 block of Washington Lane around 12:40 a.m. on Monday for reports of a shooting. Authorities say a 37-year-old man was found dead on his front lawn. Witnesses told investigators that a black Sedan parked in front of the victim's house and waited for him to come outside before a man stepped outside of the car and "ambushed and executed," according to Captain Anthony Ginaldi. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe man was a SEPTA manager and father of seven, police say. Officials says 15 spent shell casings were found on the scene. Ginaldi says the bullets were fired in rapid succession, leading authorities to believe that the gun used in the shooting may have been modified. According to authorities, there is surveillance video that investigators will use as part of the ongoing investigation. Police say a 37-year-old father of seven was "ambushed and executed" on his front lawn in Germantown.

PHILADELPHIA -  Nearly two dozen people were shot, four fatally, as a weekend of violence erupted in Philadelphia with four others stabbed across the city.The bloodshed began Friday night as investigators say a man in his 30s was shot and killed in Philadelphia’s Fairhill section around 9:30 p.m.At about 10 p.m., a 55-year-old man was the victim of a stabbing on the 500 block of South 17th Street, in Southwest Philadelphia. He was listed as stable.At about the same time, in Kensington, a shootout critically injured a 31-year-old man, and wounded a 21-year-old man.About an hour later, in Frankford, a 48-year-old man was wounded after he was shot in the arm.In Overbrook, a 30-year-old was critically wounded after he was stabbed in the chest a little before midnight.Early Saturday morning, police were called to Einstein Medical Center where a 23-year-old man was brought with gunshot wounds to his knee, ankle and both legs.

EASTWICK - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting inside a convenience store that left a 24-year-old employee in critical condition.According to authorities, the shooting happened inside a 7-Eleven on the 2900 block of South 70th Street, Sunday night, about 9 p.m.The 24-year-old man was shot in the neck and his arm.Police took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.Officials say an investigation is active, though no weapons have been found and no arrests have been made.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A 13-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot in West Philadelphia.Authorities said the shooting happened Sunday afternoon, about 4 p.m., at North 58th and Vine Streets.The boy was shot one time in the groin, officials said.He was taken by police to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, treated for his injury and listed in stable condition.Police are investigating the shooting.

Greg Masi was part of the city's initial response team to New York City following the tragic events of September 11."Throughout the entire day we all realized we didn't know what was going to happen next," Masi said.Masi, who is currently the chief of Philadelphia 2nd Alarmers, says an unaccounted aircraft was headed to Philadelphia from Paris. "Philadelphia being the birthplace of the nation, they thought that they maybe we were a potential target," he said.

PHILADELPHIA - A solemn tradition holds an even deeper meaning today as the Philadelphia Fire Department rings the bell for those whose service ended after the terror attacks on September 11.Nineteen members of Philadelphia's heavy fire rescue were sent to New York City, offering assistance in the aftermath of 9/11.To honor the fallen firefighters, as well as citizens who died in the attacks, the Philadelphia Fire Department sounds a memorial bell.Three bells ring three times in a row to signify that a firefighter has ended their shift, and performed their last alarm.MORE HEADLINES:The ringing of the bell is part of a 9/11 memorial service at Betsy Ross' house that features guest speakers and a memorial to those who have fallen in the line of duty.

MILL CREEK - Members of the community gathered Saturday in West Philadelphia to remember a Parks and Rec employee who was shot and killed Friday.Tiffany Fletcher was preparing for students to arrive after school when she was caught in the crossfire during a shootout between two groups.More than 100 people came out to pay tribute to a woman her mother calls a beautiful daughter, sister and mom of three boys and, once again, beg for the gun violence in Philadelphia to stop.MORE HEADLINES:"It’s like she’s here. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Black pastor who was arrested by white police officers while watering the flowers of a neighbor who was out of town filed a federal lawsuit alleging the ordeal violated his constitutional rights and caused lingering problems including emotional distress and anxiety.Michael Jennings filed the lawsuit Friday night against three officers and the central Alabama town of Childersburg requesting a jury trial and seeking an unspecified amount of money.Jennings’ lawyers held a news conference outside the Birmingham federal courthouse on Saturday to discuss the lawsuit, and the NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization, and other groups planned a rally afterward at a downtown park.RELATED: Legoland performers ignored Black children, lawsuit alleges"I’m here for accountability, and I’m here for justice," Jennings told the news conference.The suit alleged the actions of Officers Christopher Smith and Justin Gable, Sgt.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a triple shooting in North Philadelphia that left one of the victims in critical condition.According to authorities, the shooting happened Saturday evening, around 6 p.m., on the 2500 block of North 17th Street.22nd District officers found a 56-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. A 27-year-old man was shot six times in his legs.

KENSINGTON - A double shooting in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood has critically wounded a 22-year-old man, while a 23-year-old man is hospitalized.Officials say the two men were shot on the 800 block of East Tioga Street Saturday afternoon, about 1:30.Responding officers found the 22-year-old man shot multiple times in the back and neck. Medics rushed him to Temple University Hospital where he is listed in extremely critical condition.MORE HEADLINES:The 23-year-old man was shot five times in the leg.

OVERBROOK - A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood.Late Friday night, just after 11:30, police were called to the 1500 block of North 52nd Street on the report of a person stabbed, according to authorities.When police arrived, they found a 30-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.Medics rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.Police say an investigation is active with Southwest Detectives.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A 34-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the head inside of a vehicle in West Philadelphia.Officials say the shooting happened on Lansdowne Avenue and North 75th Street early Saturday morning, around 1 a.m.Responding officers found the man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.He was taken to Lankenau Medical Center and listed in critical condition.Police are investigating the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

A motorcycle driver is dead and a female in a minivan lost an arm in an accident on Bridge and Tacony Streets in Bridesburg. BRIDESBURG - A 59-year-old man is dead after he was involved in an accident while traveling on a motorcycle in Philadelphia's Bridesburg neighborhood.Crews were called to Bridge and Tacony Streets Friday night, about 6:30, on the report of an accident.According to officials, the 59-year-old victim was riding a motorcycle north on Tacony Street.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department graduated 32 new 911 dispatchers Friday, easing its shortage in the vital position, but the department needs still more workers.On a wall in the dispatch room, the number of calls waiting are tallied and the waiting time is counted. Police leaders say their goal is to pick up a 9-1-1 call within 10 seconds and do that 90 percent of the time.But, shortages in the dispatch room have resulted in some police delays.MORE HEADLINES:According to numbers obtained by FOX 29, last year, of the more than 2.4 million calls, more than 7,000 callers waited at least a minute-and-a-half for someone to pick-up, likely slowing police response.The police department is budgeted for 352 dispatchers.

ELK MILLS, Md. - Two adults and three children were found shot to death Friday at a Maryland house after a man called 911 from the home to report a shooting, authorities said.Cecil County Sheriff Scott Adams said a man, a woman and three children — in the 5th, 7th and 8th grade — were found Friday morning in a large two-story home in Elk Mills. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the victims, but said there is no ongoing threat to the public.The shooting occurred on a cul-de-sac in an area of residential streets interspersed with wooded areas about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northeast of Baltimore and a few miles west of the Delaware state line."It’s a horrific day, and I know everybody’s prayers are appreciated. ...

PHILADELPHIA - Special elections will be held to fill vacancies on the Philadelphia City Council after the resignations of several city councilors. Council President Darrell L. Clarke issued Wrists for Special Elections Friday to fill vacancies in the Seventh and Ninth District seats on the Philadelphia City Council. The special elections will be held on Election Day on November 8th, 2022. The Seventh District, formerly overseen by Councilmember Maria D.

PHILADELPHIA - Cherelle Parker has resigned from City Council and announced her intentions to run for Philadelphia's Mayor, making her the latest council member to throw her hat in the bid for the city's top leadership position. In her resignation letter to Council President Darrell L. Clarke, Parker said, "Serving the people of Philadelphia - first as a Council intern then staffer, then as a State Representative, where I led the Philadelphia delegation, and now as a Councilperson and the Council Majority Leader - has been one of the greatest honors of my lifetime, after having my son Langston." "I am humbled by the fact that I was allowed the privilege of representing the mighty 9th Council District, and I am proud of the work I did to solve problems for the residents of both my District and the City of Philadelphia," the letter continued. Parker says she sees where Philadelphia stands as a city and identified the type of leader she thinks it needs. "Like many people across Philadelphia, I see the crossroads at which our city is standing.

OVERBROOK - Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal shooting of a man in Overbrook.Officials said the shooting happened Thursday night, just before 9 p.m., on the 6200 block of Lebanon Avenue in Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood.19th District officers responded and found the man, believed to be in his 30s, in the street, with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are searching for two suspects accused of breaking into a West Philadelphia restaurant and stealing thousands of dollars worth of items. According to police, the burglary happened on July 29 at Booker's Restaurant and Bar on Baltimore Avenue. Authorities say surveillance video shows two men smashing the restaurant's front door before entering around 5:30 a.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say the suspects went through the entire business and took cash, checks, alcohol and a safe, a total value of several thousand dollars. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia police or submit an anonymous tip. 

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is attempting to identify two suspects caught on video robbing a business at gunpoint. According to police, the robbery occurred on Tuesday at 11:17 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - A group of local runners went out on an early morning run in honor of Eliza Fletcher, the woman who was kidnaped in Memphis while out on a morning jog and later found dead. RELATED: Eliza Fletcher abduction: Body found near area of crime scene investigationThe runners gathered at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a popular end location for runs and races, at 4:30 a.m., the same time Fletcher went out for her run one week ago. Authorities say the 34-year-old school teacher was jogging when a man approached her and forced her into an SUV. Her body was found and identified days later and Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested. According to officials, he was released from prison in 2020 after serving 20 years for a previous kidnapping. The local runners hosted the run in an effort to support Fletcher and the run organizer Bennet Brookstein, who was attacked while out on a jog in Philadelphia on Christmas Day in 2021. FOX 29's Eddie Kadhim has the latest details on the assault of a runner on MLK Drive."It just hit me hard.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman is in extremely critical condition after she was shot in the head in broad daylight in West Philadelphia, police say. Authorities say the shooting occurred on the 5900 block of Irving Street at 10:36 a.m. According to police, a 33-year-old woman was shot once in the head. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice transported the woman to Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was placed in extremely critical condition, authorities say.  Officials say no arrest has been made and the weapon was not recovered at this time. 

PHILADELPHIA - One man is dead and a teenager was injured after a double shooting in Kensington on Thursday night. According to police, the shooting occurred on the 3100 block of Potter Street around 10:46 p.m.Authorities say an unidentified man was shot once in the head and transported to Temple Hospital, where he was initially put in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m., according to officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESA 17-year-old was also injured in the shooting and sustained a gunshot wound to his right ear, police say. Authorities say he was transported to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, where he was placed in stable condition.

PHILADELPHIA - A Pennsylvania man drown at a New Jersey beach when police say he was swept out to sea by strong currents Thursday afternoon. Shawn Reilly, 56, was swimming at an Ocean City beach with his 21-year-old son when police say rough surf caused him to struggle in the water. According to investigators, Reilly's son tried to help his father and was also taken by the strong currents.Three lifeguards entered the water and brought both men to shore where they immediately started CPR on Reilly. First responders from the Ocean City Fire Department/EMS took over CPR and rushed Reilly to Shore Medical Center where he died. 

CENTER CITY - There’s a new warning from police about rainbow fentanyl and a mother who lost her son to a fentanyl overdose shares her story."This happened and to this day, I just can’t understand it," mother Tanya Niederman said.JJ Niederman was only 19 when he died of a fentanyl overdoes. PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are investigating after motorists reported being pelted with rocks and other debris while driving down a Philadelphia highway on Tuesday night. A driver who asked to remain anonymous told FOX 29 that he was driving on I-76 eastbound near the Passyunk and Oregon Avenue exit around 7 p.m. when his car was struck by a large rock. He described the sound of the rock shattering his windshield as an "explosion" that sent glass fragments scattered across the inside of his brand-new car. "When the car got his I thought I got shot, the car got shot, that's how much of an explosion it was," he said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe unnamed driver pulled his vehicle to the side of the road where several other cars had stopped after also being struck by thrown debris."There was a guy about 5-10 cars up from me that said a rock had gone through the windshield and struck a woman in the face that she needed emergency services," he said. Another driver who was in the shoulder of the highway claimed that her car was struck by a fire extinguisher, according to the anonymous driver. Officers from the Delaware River Port Authority said one person was throwing debris from the CSX Railroad overpass, but they ran away before police arrived. Dozens of cars were damaged when police say someone hurled rocks and other debris onto a busy Philadelphia highway.
