Private hospitals will provide some cancer, cardiac and spinal surgery during the coronavirus crisis. The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, Stockport, run by BMI, will take on a range of services from The Christie and other NHS providers - at cost price.

It is understood that as well as cancer surgery, The Alex will also pick up spinal surgery. Some cardiac and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) services will be delivered by private healthcare providers too.
