An Australian smuggler who tried to bring 5.8kg of cocaine to Colombia becaused she “needed the money” has been released from prison over Covid-19 fears. “Cocaine Cassie”, a former personal trainer from Adelaide, was arrested after she tried to smuggle the drugs concealed in headphones into the country in 2017.
But, she has now been released on parole in the country’s capital, Bogota, where she will have to stay for 27 months as part of the conditions.
Sainsbury, 24, is now among 4,000 prisoners who were released after President Ivan Duque issued a decree due to fears the deadly virus could kill many in overcrowded prisons.
