The Queen's reign is effectively over" due to the coronavirus pandemic, a royal biographer has claimed. Andrew Morton, who has written several books about the family, said he doesn't believe the monarch will be able to resume her official duties amid lockdown.

He claims Covid has "practically put Charles on the throne", and says the virus has "done more damage to the monarchy than Oliver Cromwell".

The Queen and Prince Philip have been social distancing at Windsor Castle since the government restrictions were put in place.

At 94 and 99, they are both in the vulnerable category and have been carrying out their royal duties via video call and on the phone.
