People should keep eight metres away from each other to prevent the coronavirus from spreading, scientists have claimed. The current advice in the UK is to remain two metres (6'6") away from other people to lessen the chance of the deadly bug being transmitted.
A study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers found that droplets propelled by coughs and sneezes can fly up to eight metres in warm, moist climates.
In a Journal of the American Medical Association article the scientists questioned the current recommendations, writing: "These distances are based on estimates of range that have not considered the possible presence of a high-momentum cloud carrying the droplets long distances.
