A man whose mother died due to Covid-19 has urged people to stay in, in order to avoid the loss of a loved one as a result of the virus.
Speaking on RTÉ's Liveline, Ciaran O'Rourke said that his 69-year-old mother Ann, who was from Donard in Dublin, died a week ago after she contracted the coronavirus.
He explained that his mother, who was a resident at a nursing home, became ill very quickly and was refused admission to a hospital "because she was too far gone".
Ms O'Rourke was taken back to her nursing home, where she received sedation, and passed away less than 24 hours later. Mr O'Rourke said that his mother's remains were brought from a funeral home straight to Glasnevin Cemetery for burial.
