direct to your inbox Spain and Portugal are the latest in a string of countries to ban travel from the UK after the discovery of the mutated strain of coronavirus.

On Monday, the Spanish Government announced that flights from the UK would be suspended - with only Spanish citizens and those who currently live in the country allowed to enter.Madrid said it would also reinforce controls at the border with Gibraltar to ensure travellers complied with the restriction.

It is understood the same rules will apply to both the mainland Spain and the islands. The ban also prevents non-resident or non-nationals entering Portugal from the UK.The restrictions will come into force on Tuesday, December 21 and all non-Spanish nationals will be prohibited.
