Cats and ferrets are among the animals most at risk of catching coronavirus, warn vets. Although the risks are lower in animals, experts are learning that cats and ferrets may be more prone to infections than dogs and a test for pet owners could be on the way.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) is warning pet owners to keep their animals indoors if they have been exposed to Covid-19 during the coronavirus outbreak.
News of the risks to cats caused the BVA website to crash temporarily as cat owners started to worry for their pets lives. Clarifying its position BVA vets say cats from households infected with coronavirus or where their owners are self-isolating should be kept indoors.
