FILE - A Chinese woman adjusts a Chinese flag near US flags before the start of a Strategic Dialogue expanded meeting between China and the US during the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Ju BEIJING - China sentenced a 78-year-old United States citizen to life in prison Monday on spying charges, in a case that could exacerbate the deterioration in ties between Beijing and Washington over recent years.Details of the charges against John Shing-Wan Leung, who also holds permanent residency in Hong Kong, have not been publicly released.Leung was detained April 15, 2021, by the local bureau of China's counterintelligence agency in the southeastern city of Suzhou, according to a statement posted by the city’s intermediate court on its social media site. His detention came after China had closed its borders and imposed tight domestic travel restrictions and social controls to fight the spread of COVID-19.Such investigations and trials are held behind closed doors and little information is generally released other than vague accusations of infiltration, gathering secrets and threatening state security.Relations between Washington and Beijing are at their lowest in decades amid disputes over trade, technology, human rights and China’s increasingly aggressive approach toward its territorial claims involving self-governing Taiwan and the South China Sea.

PHILADELPHIA - Mother's Day is a celebration for women to celebrate their role as mothers, but for many women in Philadelphia, the day is a solemn one. As Philadelphia continues to battle its ongoing gun crime crisis, many women are mourning the loss of children who died as a result of violence. FOX 29's Steve Keeley spoke with a group of mothers treated to a spa day by Glossy Nails in North Philadelphia as they prepare to mark an emotional Mother's Day without their children. Glossy Nails Boutique and Sixx Degrees Media partnered to give the group of mothers the special day. Michelle De Jesus lost two sons to gun violence and she says Mother's Day never gets easier. She says she lost one son in the month of July and the other son in August, making the summer months difficult for her. "I know God wanted his sons so he took them, but the guns have got to stop. It's really sad," she said. Movita Johnson Harrell, a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, also lost two sons to gun violence. Movita Johnson-Harrell, who lost her own son to gun violence, discusses the recent shootings in Philadelphia.The faces of her two sons were plastered across her t-shirt and on a poster as she spoke on Good Day Philadelphia. Harrell says she has been fighting against gun violence on the front lines after her first son was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

PHILADELPHIA - SEPTA is warning Swifties to avoid having Bad Blood with traffic and instead use public transportation for Taylor Swift's three-night stop in Philadelphia. Swift will spend May 12, May 13 and May 14 performing at Lincoln Financial Field as part of her Eras Tour. After an array of issues surrounding tickets, from Ticketmaster's availability controversy, high prices and the selling of fake tickets, fans who are attending the shows are already buzzing with excitement. Some Taylor Swift fans were disappointed to learn they would not be able to attend Taylor's Philadelphia shows despite purchasing tickets months ago.As the City of Brotherly Love prepares to welcome Swift, SEPTA is preparing for increased traffic in and around South Philadelphia. SEPTA says it is helping riders "shake off" traffic congestion with additional service to help fans get to the Linc. The agency is also advising riders to plan their trips to and from the concert venue, with a recommendation to purchase fares in advance. RELATED COVERAGEIn addition to regular service on the Broad Street Line, five local trains will make stops to NRG Station leaving the Fern Rock Transportation Center at these dates and times: SEPTA says additional service from Center City will also be offered on the Paoli/Thorndale, Media/Wawa and West Trenton lines on Saturday and Sunday. Fans are urged to go directly to NRG Station after the shows to catch the Broad Street Line and connecting transportation.
