PHILADELPHIA - The family of a little girl who was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash last week in Philadelphia is pleading for the driver of the vehicle to come forward. Family members say Divinity McFarland, 5, 43-year-old Shaheed Richberg and a 3-year-old girl were crossing the intersection of 56th and Vine streets around noon Friday when they were hit. Divinity suffered severe head trauma from the crash and remains at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition. Richberg, according to family, is also hospitalized with two broken legs."She’s fighting hard to come back to us, she’s a strong little girl, so we have hopes that she’s gonna pull through it’s just gonna take time," Divinity's aunt, Elsie Jackson, said.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice believe the striking vehicle fled the scene of the crash and was found abandoned blocks away near the intersection of 53rd and Race streets.Authorities described the driver as a Black man in his 50s wearing a white t-shirt with dark lettering and tan pants.

WILMINGTON, De. - A local non-profit and the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni Association teamed up to gift a custom bicycle to a young girl who suffered traumatic brain injuries after surviving a hit-and-run.Divinity McFarland, 6, was among three children and an adult struck by a driver in a stolen truck while crossing theintersection of 56th and Vine streets last September.McFarland was admitted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition, and spent the next five months hospitalized until she was able to return home in February. Nearly 10 months after the life-changing incident, local non-profit Help Hope Live and the Philadelphia Flyers gifted Divinity a custom tricycle worth $6,000. "This bike will grow with her, it will stay with her for a lifetime, and she will get to be a kid just like all of us," Kelly Green from Help Hope Live said. "She's going to have a great summer on this bike."Divinity's traumatic injuries suffered in the hit-and-run made it impossible for her to ride a regular bike. "It means a lot because since it's getting warmer all the kids are outside playing, and she wants to play along with them and ride with them," Divinity's aunt, Elsie Johnson, said.Help Hope Live is a FOX 29 partner.

PHILADELPHIA - What started as a passion for one Philadelphia woman, has given promise to dozens of girls in need of a loving, supportive home.Naima Powell has worked to change the lives of young people in Philadelphia for 20 years, and Saturday she unveiled her first center - a home for girls ages 10 to 17.The 3-bedroom house on Regent Street in Southwest Philadelphia will soon be home to six children whose families are unable to care for them.Powell, the found and director of Lighthouse Family Youth Agency, is determined to provide young girls with the comfort and security of knowing they are loved and supported. "Youth will come in through the welfare system, and our goal is to teach them and advocate with them to be the best versions of themselves," Powell said.She's been a foster mom for 20 years, providing a loving home for 15 years."My mom raised me since I was two months old after my biological mother wasn't really there for me, and built me into the person I am," said Divine Cannedy, Powell's daughter.As a social worker, Powell says her lifelong goal is to help children reach their full potential."Children between the ages of 10 to 17 need the guidance, need the support, they need people who are accepting of them," she said.
