A ‘Nightingale’ hospital for coronavirus patients will be created at the Manchester Central convention centre, the government has confirmed.
The M.E.N. reported earlier this week that the former G-Mex was being considered as a possible site for a field hospital. At this afternoon’s Downing Street press conference on the pandemic, NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens confirmed that would be the case.
It is understood Manchester’s version of the Nightingale hospital already announced for London’s ExCel centre is likely to be up and running within a week - but will take between 750 and 1,000 patients, compared to the ExCel’s 4,000.
