Andrei Doroshin PHILADELPHIA - A graduate student in psychology whose COVID-19 vaccine operation got shut down by Philadelphia last year has settled with the state attorney general's office and agreed to destroy all personal health information his start-up gathered.The agreement was filed Friday in Commonwealth Court and requires a judge's approval to take effect.Central to the accusations against Andrei Doroshin, who had almost no public health experience when the city gave him the task, was that he had intended to profit from the vaccine operation run by his start-up, called Philly Fighting COVID.Mayor Jim Kenney says Philly Fighting COVID was a mistake after the Inspector General found no malice, no ill-intent, and no one seeking personal gain.Doroshin denied the allegations by the attorney general's office, including violating the state's nonprofit corporation law.Under the agreement, Doroshin and his associates are barred from managing charitable assets or soliciting charitable donations in Pennsylvania for 10 years.Doroshin also must destroy the personal health information gathered through the vaccine pre-registration service and is barred from receiving any financial benefit from the information or the vaccine.Doroshin must also dissolve Philly Fighting COVID.City officials said they gave him the job because he and his friends had organized one of the community groups that set up COVID-19 testing sites throughout the city in 2020.But they shut the vaccine operation down once they learned that Doroshin had switched his privacy notice to potentially sell patient data.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Investigations by the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) have revealed that former intelligence operative of the Liberation Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE) Satkunam alias Sabesan (47), who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Chennai in October 2021 for alleged involvement in the smuggling of drugs and arms from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, had close links with Sri Lankan don Angoda Lokka and his aides, The Hindu reports.The CB-CID, which is investigating the death and illegal stay of Lokka in disguise in Coimbatore, recently arrested Sabesan and two other suspects, one from Chennai and a Lankan.The CB-CID team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Sivakumar interrogated the trio and found they were closely associated with Lokka and his confidante Chanuka Thananayake alias ‘Ladiya’.According to investigators, Sabesan and Chinnasuresh had left Sri Lanka following crimes there and to escape from a rival gang, while Angoda Lokka and Ladiya had also shifted base to India for the same reason.

Winnipeg’s mayor says that the city of Winnipeg is facing staffing challenges due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, including transit and the city’s fire paramedic services.Mayor Brian Bowman and head of the Emergency Services Unit, Jason Shaw, made the announcement Thursday.“We are not immune to the service effects with COVID-19,” said Bowman, adding the city has been able to handle staffing challenges over the past few weeks so far.Shaw said there are currently 351 active cases of COVID-19 among city staff, including 76 in transit and 85 in the fire paramedic services.“Winnipeg transit is using spare operators,” said Shaw, but said that transit has had to cancel some routes. People should check daily to see if their route is running.”Fire paramedic services are being redeployed, said Shaw, and so far has not impacted response times.“Operational planning and decisions are being made in consultation with our medical director and shared health,” he said.“We continue to get updates from provincial health officials.

A major fire has broken out in the South African parliament building in Cape Town.Firefighters present at the building as large flames and a huge column of smoke were seen at around 05:30 GMT on Sunday.“The roof has caught fire and the National Assembly building is also on fire,” a spokesman for the city’s emergency services told AFP news agency, requesting reinforcements at the scene.“The fire is not under control and cracks in the walls of the building have been reported,” he added.There was no indication of what may have started the fire.According to local media outlet News24, 36 firefighters are at the scene and authorities have called for additional resources as they try to contain the blaze.
