Court surgery opens in Airdrie to help reduce backlog of cases caused by Covid-19
Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.A JUDGE-LED initiative in courts across the south of Scotland that has proved to be successful in reducing the backlog of summary court cases caused by the coronavirus pandemic has extended to Airdrie.Currently, many sheriff court cases scheduled for trial resolve by an agreed guilty plea between the prosecutor and the defence agent. However, this often takes place on the day that the trial is due to start, which means that witnesses attend unnecessarily and a slot in the court programme is used, preventing another case from proceeding to trial.Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar has now facilitated weekly court surgeries – including one in Airdrie – initially

Final Trump-Biden debate marked by clashes but less chaos
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a raucous first debate led organizers to introduce a mute button, the second and final meeting between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden was a downright civil affair.Whether because of that button this time or the terrible reviews in the first debate — especially for Trump — the candidates interrupted each other far less frequently Thursday night, even as they clashed on issues including the coronavirus, crime and global warming. While Trump and Biden responded to the other's answers — shaking their heads disapprovingly or smiling, in the case of Biden — the two largely avoided speaking over each other.Trump, in particular, was on his best behavior, especially early on, and especially when it

Brian May believes COVID-19 may have sparked heart attack horror 'Coronavirus is scary!'
in an interview with the Daily Express: “I think it’s possible that I had the Covid virus early on in the tour of Korea, Japan and Australia in January, and got through it, but it’s thickened the blood, which apparently it does, and that could have been the trigger that gave me the heart attack.“I thought it was too early to get it (Covid) but the evidence now seems to be that the virus was around.”Brian went on to say the confirmed cause of his heart attack is “still a bit of a mystery” as he claimed he was keeping fit during his last tour with Queen.“Strangely enough I was the fittest person on that last Queen tour we did,” he divulged.“I did biking every morning and I’m not a person who has ever smoked.
