UK toll rises by 449 as NI records 13 further deaths

The UK has announced that a further 449 people who had been hospitalised with Covid-19 have now died. The figure represents the lowest daily death toll in the country for two weeks.

A total of 16,509 people hospitalised with the virus there have now died. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the UK has also risen to 124,743.

The figure for deaths is as of 4pm yesterday, while the figure for confirmed cases is as 8am this morning. Meanwhile, Stormont health minister Robin Swann has announced an additional 13 deaths in Northern Ireland.

Mr Swann also announced that 40 people were in hospital intensive care units earlier today. Hospitals in Northern Ireland yesterday recorded 88 Covid-19 admissions.
