Venice chemical fire and explosion rains down toxic black smoke on Italian homes

An explosion and fire at a chemical factory in Marghera, Venice, Italy, has resulted in a toxic cloud of smoke smothering the surrounding towns as shown in a shocking video.

Two workers were injured, one seriously, in the blast at 3V Sigma Spa chemical plant at around 10.15am local time this morning.

Authorities have warned that there could be further explosions and – because they are not sure which potentially hazardous chemicals are burning – people have been told to shut their windows and stay indoors as a precaution.
