Grave concerns have been expressed by the Irish Association of Social Workers over current visiting restrictions in nursing homes.
The IASW has written to the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly describing the current restrictions as a "continued infringement" of residents' rights to family life.
The association has provided frontline support in nursing homes throughout the pandemic. It says the Government has failed to invest in visiting spaces to promote frequent safe visiting and has also accused the Government of failing to recognise safeguarding risks posed by limiting family visits.
The association rejects the Health Surveillance Protection Centre guidance that the fundamental need and right to see residents is measured,
