COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Life Saving states that in the event of drowning, the first step that one must adhere to is to scream for assistance.

Noting that deaths due to drowning, especially at remote rural areas has increased, the President of Sri Lanka Life Saving, Asanka Nanayakkara stated that caution must be exercised at all times, and to not to go swimming in remote areas, especially places that are advertised on social media.

He further said that one must grab onto something or even throw something when they are drowning, and anyone who is on the shore MUST NOT jump in after them, in order to reduce the number of persons to be rescued.

Moreover, he added that the first step that should be taken after rescuing the drowning person is to administer CPR to them, and afterwards to take them to the hospital, in an emergency vehicle.

Ukraine’s Zelenskyy has survived multiple assassination attempts amid Russian war: reports
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has survived at least one assassination attempt since Russia invaded his country over a week ago, according to official accounts, with media reports suggesting he may have dodged two more.Ukrainian officials have confirmed one of the attempts, which they say was to be carried out by a unit of Kadyrovites, an elite special forces team based in Chechnya that serves the country’s president Ramzan Kadyrov.Oleksiy Danilov, the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, told a media briefing on Tuesday that the plot was foiled last weekend after anti-war agents of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) — the successor to the KGB — tipped the Ukrainians off.“We are well aware of the special operation that was to take place directly by the Kadyrovites to eliminate our president,” Danilov said.“I can say that we have received information from the FSB, who today do not want to take part in this bloody war. And thanks to this, I can say that Kadyrov’s elite group was directly destroyed, which came here to eliminate our president.” Zelenskyy criticizes NATO for refusing to impose no-fly zone over Ukraine The Times of London reported Thursday that two more attempts to kill Zelenskyy have been carried out in recent days by members of the Wagner Group, a private mercenary group whose leader is tied to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Those attempts were also stopped by Ukrainian forces protecting the president, the paper reported, with the mercenary groups suffering losses.

CHICAGO - Former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was released from state custody Thursday morning after serving three years and four months for the murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.Jordan Abudayyeh, a spokeswoman for the governor, said Van Dyke was released Thursday morning, though she didn't have any other details, including where he had been imprisoned.Van Dyke, who is white, had been in custody since he was convicted of second-degree murder and aggravated battery for the October 2014 shooting death of McDonald, who was armed with a knife as he walked away from the officer. Van Dyke served less than half of his sentence of six years and nine months, securing an early release for behaving well in prison.Van Dyke leaves prison at a tenuous time for the city and its police force.Activists and family of McDonald have called for Van Dyke to be charged federally and condemned his early release.DOWNLOAD THE FOX 32 NEWS APP"It just reinforces this feeling of hopelessness in African American communities, and reinforces the thought that police can continue their oppressive behavior in those communities and be either exonerated or given light sentences," said Chico Tillmon, a senior research fellow at the University of Chicago Crime Lab and a former gang member.Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement Thursday there is much work to be done to heal from the murder of McDonald."I know some Chicagoans remain disheartened and angry about Jason Van Dyke’s sentence for the murder of Laquan McDonald.
