For the past seven weeks people up and down the UK have been clapping for NHS staff and care workers on Thursday evenings. Clap For Our Carers asks people to stand up and applaud those providing care during the coronavirus pandemic.
The uplifting campaign was started by Annemarie Plas, a Dutch woman living in London, who was inspired by similar tributes back in the Netherlands. "What I’ve seen in my home country made me look a little deeper into it and I saw the boost that it gave to the frontline and the togetherness it brought to the people that were stuck in their homes," she said.
