A woman has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house in north Manchester. The blaze began at a maisonette on Southdown Crescent in Blackley shortly before 9:45pm.
Five fire engines, police and paramedics raced to the scene. Two people, a man and a woman, had managed to escape the property before their arrival.
The woman was attended to by paramedics who then took her to hospital. The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
