Short-term letting company Airbnb is to provide free emergency accommodation to victims of domestic violence in Ireland. The company says the move is a response to the reduction in capacity of specialist domestic violence facilities because of social distancing requirements.
During the coronavirus restrictions, the number of cases of domestic violence reported to gardaí increased by 24%. But due to requirements around social distancing, the capacity in specialist accommodation for the victims of domestic violence is down around 25%.
Airbnb said it will work with its hotel partners to provide free temporary accommodation when spaces in refuges are not available.
