British Columbia announces Interior Health region’s first COVID-19-related death

The Interior Health region recorded its first death due to COVID-19, provincial health authorities announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Until this week, the region had only seen consistently weekly increases of confirmed coronavirus cases. That changed when provincial health officer Dr.

Bonnie Henry announced that a man in his 60s died. The man had been mostly at home, she said, but had gone to hospital in an acute condition prior to his death.

She did not say what day or where he died. However, friends and family of the man have come forward and identified him as 69-year-old Dennis Rau of Kelowna.
