British tourists might be able to enjoy a holiday with no restrictions from June 1 in Greece, the local government has announced.
The country acted rapidly soon after recording the first case of Covid-19 on February 26. A tight lockdown was imposed with restrictions on movement and schools and universities closed.
And more than 60,000 fines were issued to those violating the lockdown - totalling about £8.1m. The authorities hard work paid off with just 151 recorded deaths and 2,726 cases.
In comparison, the UK has recorded a shocking 32,065 fatalities and 223,000 confirmed cases. Now the Greek government is looking to gradually ease its restrictions during the crucial months for the tourist industry.
