Brits could enjoy a special October bank holiday this year in a bid to boost tourism ravaged by the coronavirus lockdown. The head of Visit Britain, Patricia Yates, today told MPs that extending the holiday season beyond August could help boost the sector.
Downing Street has confirmed the idea will be examined by politicians. Ms Yates told the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS): "The idea that we could possibly have a bank holiday in October, because the industry has lost the benefit of the two May bank holidays, I think that's an idea being considered.
