Local leaders are calling on the government to ease the current coronavirus restrictions in Wigan, where the number of cases remains relatively low.There were 9.4 confirmed cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in the borough in the seven days up to August 15, up from 7.3 the week before.But the infection rate elsewhere in Greater Manchester has started to fall.Speaking at a remote press conference today, Wigan Council leader David Molyneux, together with the Mayor of Greater Manchester, called for the regional restrictions on homes and businesses to be lifted in the borough.His calls are backed by the other nine council leaders in Greater Manchester.He said: “I’m very pleased and very proud of the residents in the way that they’ve reacted.
