The Chancellor will make an announcement on Tuesday about the current furlough scheme after revealing that it is to be 'wound down'.
Rishi Sunak will update MPs on the Job Retention Scheme, which is currently supporting 6.3 million workers and so far cost the Treasury £8billion, tomorrow the Prime Minister has said.
It comes after Mr Sunak said last week that the scheme, which pays up to 80% of companies staff salaries during the coronavrius pandemic, is 'to be wound down' and described it as not 'sustainable' in the longer term.
Speaking to ITV News, Mr Sunak said there would be no "cliff-edge" cut off to the furlough scheme, which was initially set up with a time frame until end of June.
