Cheshire Police is to review cases of people believed to be breaking coronavirus lockdown rules. The force said it is doing so to make sure its officers actions were "proportionate" to the rules that were granted by the government.

On Thursday, police officers were given the power to fine and arrest people who continuously flout the social distancing measures as they will now be considered to be breaking the law.

Those who ignore the tough restrictions on movement could be hit with a £60 fine initially and another £120 fine for a second offence.

But Cheshire Police came under fire after it initially said six people had been summonsed for offences under new social distancing laws.
