Nicola Sturgeon said that the new variant was accountable for around half of overnight cases reported on Tuesday. The First Minister said that the Scottish Government had to act “quickly and decisively” when announcing strict lockdown measures across the mainland on Monday this week.
Scots must stay at home under the new rules implemented. Non-essential businesses must close, household mixing inside a private home is completely banned and school buildings will remain closed to most pupils during the period of lockdown.
