Coronavirus in Scotland update as 78 new deaths and 1,753 new cases announced

Covid-19. The Scottish Government confirmed the numbers today as coronavirus cases reached 1,753. The total number of positive cases in Scotland now stands at 160,992 since the start of the pandemic.

1,863 people are in hospital while 145 are in intensive care.It was also confirmed that 224,840 people have now received their first dose of the vaccine across Scotland, while 3,331 have received their second dose.

It comes as tougher lockdown restrictions are beginning today for Scotland as the country desperately tries to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned the situation is "extremely serious" and action must be taken to halt the rapidly spreading new strain.
