NEW DELHI: The long pending guidelines on telemedicine and virtual doctors have finally seen the light of the day. Following the healthcare crisis in India because of the Covid-19 pandemic, government think tank Niti Aayog has released the telemedicine practice guidelines, which had been pending for nearly 10 years, in association with the ministry of health and family welfare.
Telemedicine will enable doctors to prescribe medicines based on telephone, reducing risks of transmission for healthcare workers and patients.
Given the lockown, which has made visits to clinics and healthcare facilities diffiicult, it will also allow for quick diagnosis, and will also make it easier for people in remote locations access healthcare.
