Coronavirus in Scotland: 39 new deaths and 1,596 new cases

coronavirus. There have been 1,596 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 72,328 since the pandemic began in March.

Scotland's death toll from the virus now stands at 3,036. Currently, 1,245 people are in hospital with the virus, with 106 of those in intensive care.It comes after Scotland introduced a new five-tier lockdown system went into force across the country this week.The local lockdowns range from level zero to level four - with restrictions in the highest tier as close to a full lockdown as the country experienced in March.Each local authority's lockdown level was confirmed last week with the majority of council areas staying in tier three.But Nicola Sturgeon has warned Lanarkshire could be moved.
