Coronavirus lockdown alcoholic ordered to stay at home in bid to get him clean

yob who became an alcoholic while stuck inside during the Covid-19 lockdown has been ordered to remain at home. Thomas Mowles is said to have developed a drinking problem due to the stay at home guidance issued by the government to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

And when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday a judge ordered him to stay at home for a further eight months.

Mowles had previously pleaded guilty to attacking a shop worker, and throwing a hammer at a cone on top of a set of traffic lights, in his hometown of Barrhead, East Renfrewshire.

Defence solicitor Eamonn McGeehan explained: "He asked to be remanded in custody because he was drinking too much. "The mother of his children was delighted he was in.
