Coronavirus transmission rates in Scotland have risen above 1 following a surge in cases, Nicola Sturgeon has said. The Scottish First Minister said the reproduction rate of the virus, which calculates how many people are infected by each positive case, could be as high as 1.4.
The so-called R rate was believed to be below 1 for some months in Scotland but Ms Sturgeon said it has risen on Thursday. Scientists believe this is the threshold where coronavirus begins to spread more rapidly in the community.
