Businesses are no longer being charged rent if they lease properties from East Ayrshire Council and have had to shut because of coronavirus.The council has decided to waive three months rent for April, May and June for the firms who occupy council-owned properties.It comes after a number of business tenants asked for a lifeline.The council’s legal estate services manager Stuart McCall said 36 tenants have been awarded rent rebates.Only businesses forced to close premises to comply with coronavirus regulations have received a rent rebate.
East Ayrshire rents 107 properties to companies, community groups and individuals. Council leader Douglas Reid said the council wants to assist companies to overcome the crisis.
