More than 7500 vulnerable people in South Lanarkshire have been targeted for extra help during the coronavirus crisis.They have been phoned by a special team set up by the council as part of a national ‘Shielding’ scheme established by the Scottish Government.South Lanarkshire Council moved quickly to implement the local part of the scheme and by early last week had made at least one call to all of the people on a list compiled by the government with NHS input.Of the 7770 people contacted, 2500 are now receiving food packages and 2100 are having prescription medicines delivered.Others are being assisted with a variety of other pressing needs by the council’s Community Wellbeing team, which is working with the third sector and community
