UK coronavirus death toll rises by 813 to more than 12,000 after Easter drop

The official UK death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has increased by at least 813 in the last 24 hours with England alone recording 744 more deaths.

The new UK total is 12,157 - although that includes only hospital deaths with the toll feared to be far higher when fatalities in care homes are taken into account.

The total figure yesterday for the UK with England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland combined was 11,344. A further 744 people died in hospital in England, bringing the total to 11,005, health officials said.

Fifty-eight of them had no known underlying health conditions and they were aged between 38 and 96 years old. A total of 615 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, up by 40 from 575 on
