MUMBAI: The number of Covid-19 cases crossed the 2,000 mark in Maharashtra on Monday. The state added 82 new cases so far today, out of which 59 are from Mumbai.
Maharashtra also has the highest death toll in the country at 149. The state's tally of positive cases is now at 2,064. Maharashtra breached the first 1,000 cases mark on 7 April.
To contain the spread of the virus, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on 11 April said the state would extend the lockdown by two more week still 30 April.
The state will detail its plan tomorrow, the last day of 21-day lockdown period. The number of hotspots or infection clusters has increased in the state in the past few days despite the lockdown.
