Covid-19: Further 1,940 new cases, with 352 in hospital

The Department of Health has been notified of 1,940 new cases of Covid-19. As of this morning, there were 352 patients in hospital with Covid-19, two fewer than yesterday.

Of these, 74 people are in intensive care units with the virus, up one from yesterday. Latest coronavirus stories Speaking after 2,002 cases were announced yesterday, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said health officials "will continue to monitor this situation closely to see if the trend in new infections over recent days is sustained".

He added that 8,845 cases had been reported in the past seven days; fewer than the 9,115 cases reported in the previous seven days.
