BENGALURU: The Bengaluru police have issued around 10,000 special e-passes, in addition to the nearly 70,000 issued manually, to allow smooth running of essential services in the city amid the lockdown, at a time when many other cities are still trying to get their systems in place.
For many large e-commerce and online delivery firms, local authorities in Bengaluru and Pune, the latter being the first city to issue e-passes, were the among the fastest to act and ensure essential services were restored.
The permits are being issued to facilitate the movement of delivery personnel and other essential service providers after the 21-day nationwide lockdown was announced on 24 March by Prime Minister Narrendra Modi.
