The unverified footage shows a Covid-19 prevention worker dressed in a full hazmat suit chasing the corgi along a street.The dog tries to escape by hiding near parked cars however the worker catches up and hits the poor dog three times with a shovel.The dog is then seen lying on the ground, not moving.The MailOnline reports the dog's body was later taken away in a plastic bag.The savage attack comes as Shanghai continues to endure a harsh city-wide lockdown which has devastated the city and seen many residents reach breaking point.Currently, Chinese government workers are enforcing a zero-covid policy through strict lockdowns, mandatory quarantines and mass testing which has seen livelihoods collapse and households go hungry, unable to go out to get food.The unfortunate corgi's owners themselves were in a government run isolation facility after testing positive for Covid-19 at the time their beloved pet was bludgeoned to death.What's On Weibo reports the corgi's owners released the dog into the streets as they were out of dog food and worried the pooch would starve to death inside the home.In a community Weibo chat group the dog’s owner wrote: “We hoped to let him outside and be like a stray dog.
We didn’t want him to starve to death. As long as he could live it would be ok."We never expected that he would be beaten to death the moment we had left.”CNN reports the dog's owners decided to release the corgi came after a residential committee refused to look after the dog while the owners were away because they were concerned the dog was infected with the virus as well.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that the risk of animals passing on Covid-19 to humans is low and that there is no evidence animals.
