The weekly rate of coronavirus hospital admissions is falling in all but three of England's NHS regions amid new signs the lockdown is working, a new report says.
Admission rates continued to rise in the East Midlands, West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber in the seven days to January 24.
Nationally, however, hospital and ICU admissions appear to be stabilising or declining slightly, with the national rate 33.51 per 100,000 people, Public Health England's (PHE) weekly report found.
It is down from 35.64 per 100,000 in the previous week. Outbreaks in care homes had also decreased, the report found. Covid-19 case rates continued to fall in every region, but deaths continued to rise and are expected to remain high "for some time".
