Almost £2million has been raised in two days to help crisis-hit Chester Zoo. Staff have been overwhelmed by the response to the appeal to save the attraction.
A post on the zoo’s Facebook page yesterday said: “Your support has given us a massive boost during what is, without doubt, the biggest crisis this great charity has ever faced.” But despite the appeal passing £1.8m, bosses fear for the future of the zoo and its 35,000 animals.
It gets 97% of income from visitors but has been closed since lockdown and needs £1.6m a month to keep going. Chester is one of dozens of animal parks which closed in March and have no idea when they can reopen.
