Decision expected to be reached on Junior Cert

It is hoped that a formal decision will be reached today in relation to procedures to replace this year's cancelled Junior Certificate exams.

Following calls for clarity from students, parents and schools, it is likely that the Department of Education will agree to issue students with a certificate or document stating that they have completed their education to this level, and that plans to hold tests in schools in the autumn will be formally abandoned.

The Department is due to discuss the issue this morning with student, teacher, school management, and other representatives in the latest in a series of meetings.
