The decision to allow hotels and bed and breakfast reopen and have indoor dining in June is "more a practical one than a scientific one", the Tánaiste has said.
Hotels and B&Bs will be able to reopen and serve food indoors to guests from 2 June under plans to be signed off on by Cabinet today.
However restaurants, pubs and cafés will only be able resume outdoor service from 7 June, with indoor hospitality not expected to resume until early July.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Leo Varakdar said hotels have always been able to serve meals to their guests in the dining room, even to those staying during the Level 5 lockdowns.
