A "distressed" dog was found panting in a parked after being left in the vehicle on the hottest day of the year. Shocked passersby spotted the adorable pooch and managed to get water to it through a small gap in the window to help it cool off as the temperature soared to 27C yesterday.

Nigel Pearson came across the dog in Mini Cooper surrounded by a crowd of people in a residential area Oakham, Rutland. Nigel - a volunteer with Leicestershire and Rutland 4x4 response - told Leicestershire Live : "There were quite a few people hanging around the car, so I went to see what was going on and we saw that there was a dog in the car.
