The Minister for Finance has said that Ireland will have to "in some way pay" in the future for the Covid-19 related expenditure.
Paschal Donohoe said that it is likely the country will have a higher level of national debt for a period of time and that "we will have to be able to deal with that" by growing our economy.
He said he understands the need to give confidence to those receiving the Pandemic Unemployment Payment and employers need clarity on the continuation of the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme.
Mr Donohoe said the schemes are working well but are costing "hundreds of millions of euro every week." He added that he will be lay out the future of the schemes in the coming weeks.
