Police say a driver slammed into a pole and was thrown from a vehicle on Route 38 in Maple Shade. MAPLE SHADE, N.J. - The driver of a car that slammed into a pole and split in half is lucky to be alive after police say he was thrown from the vehicle and walked away with only minor injuries.

The violent crash happened sometime after midnight on Route 38 in Maple Shade, according to police. Investigators are working to determine what lead up to the violent crash.

A crumpled BMW sedan was left in the roadway surrounded by scattered car parts. A stretch of highway between Lenola Road and Route 38 remains closed as crews clean up continues.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A dad is facing charges after allegedly telling arresting officers that he left his 6-month-old son unattended in a hot car while he went inside a casino to gamble.Officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department identified the suspect as Mitchell Anthony Hooks."Mitchell told me he shouldn’t have done what he did and that he deserved anything that was coming to him," Officer Osvaldo Cerda-Guzman wrote in the police report. "He went on to say that there was no excuse for it and no reason for it."Police released body camera footage of the July 16 incident that showed officers removing the crying child from the car, then handing him over to paramedics for evaluation.
