Motorists have been caught breaching the coronavirus lockdown to travel hundreds of miles to buy puppies and speakers Fespite the nation being told not to make non-essential journeys as part of the fight against the killer bug swathes of drivers have ignored the order.

Motorists are still jumping in their cars to make non-essential journeys during the bank holiday weekend with the popular Lake District in their sights despite it being closed during the lockdown.

Cumbria Police have revealed several examples of violating motorists with the message: "Lockdown is still on. The Lake District is still closed." On Saturday a driver was stopped as he attempted to drive from Manchester to Dundee so he could buy a puppy.
