The government will help thousands of people who were caught out by a Universal Credit loophole after suffering defeat in the Court of Appeal.

Ministers finally folded today after their "shameful" two-year battle against four single mums was crushed this week. Three top judges on Monday ruled the way the government works out benefit payments for some people was "irrational" and unlawful.

In a statement to the Commons today, a minister said the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will now look at "remedial actions" for those hit.
